A cold shower is nobody's idea of a good morning. Mickey Plumbing diagnoses, repairs and replaces hot water systems across Melbourne - gas, electric and instantaneous - often on the same day you call.
Hot Water
From a pilot light that won't stay lit to a full system replacement.
System down completely? This goes to the top of the list - often fixed or replaced same-day.
Lukewarm showers and hot water that runs out usually mean a failing element or an undersized unit.
Water pooling at the base is the tank telling you it's near the end - worth acting on before it lets go.
Gas systems that need constant relighting, diagnosed and repaired safely.
Quality units supplied through Reece, installed and certified for compliance.
Swap the old storage tank for a continuous flow unit - endless hot water, less space.
Our Process
Tell us the symptoms and the unit type and we'll often narrow it down on the phone - sometimes it's a fix you can do yourself before we even come out, and we'll talk you through it.
If the unit is worth saving, we repair it. If it's leaking from the tank or past its useful life, you'll get a straight recommendation and options - not a sales pitch.
Quality gas, electric and instantaneous units supplied through Reece Plumbing and installed to spec - usually the same or next day when you're without hot water.
Compliance certificate issued, old unit taken away, and the new one walked through with you before we leave.
Know Your Unit
Typical service life before major repairs or replacement. Past the top of the range? Plan the swap before it plans itself.
Typical ranges with normal water quality and servicing - individual units vary. Not sure how old yours is? The manufacture date is on the compliance plate; send us a photo of it.
Straight Advice
Storage hot water systems don't last forever - most give eight to twelve years of service before elements, thermostats or the tank itself start to go. A failed element or valve on a younger unit is well worth repairing.
But when the tank itself is leaking, or the unit is a decade old and on its second or third repair, replacement is almost always the better spend. That's also the moment to consider an instantaneous unit - endless hot water, no tank to fail, and space back in your yard or cupboard.
Gas, electric, storage or continuous flow - we install and certify them all, and we'll size the unit to your household rather than just swapping like for like.

Hot Water Systems FAQs
A household without hot water is treated as urgent. In most cases we can supply and install a replacement the same or next day, depending on the unit and gas or electrical requirements.
It depends on your existing connections, household size and space. As a rule of thumb: like-for-like replacement is fastest, and instantaneous (continuous flow) suits households that keep running out of hot water. We'll size it properly rather than guess.
We supply quality units through Reece Plumbing with full manufacturer warranty, which also means one point of responsibility for the whole job. If you've already purchased a unit, we can install that too.
Often, yes - elements, thermostats and valves are all replaceable. If the tank itself is leaking, repair isn't viable and we'll say so straight away rather than patch something that's about to fail.
Yes. Every installation is completed by a licensed plumber (Reg #128038) and certified - which matters for insurance, rentals and resale.
Either a failing element or thermostat, sediment build-up in the tank, or a unit that's undersized for your household. A quick inspection tells us which - and each has a different, honest fix.
Tell us what's going on and where you are - we'll be in touch fast with a time and a straight answer.
